Welcome to the African Cultural Technological and Scientific Olympics – ACTSO, where we ignite the flames of creativity and academic pursuit with fervor and boundless passion.

Embark on a transformative journey each year as high school students from all corners of the country delve into the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO). Guided by community-based volunteers, participants spend a year honing their craft, whether in visual arts, business, performing arts, or culinary endeavors. This immersive experience crescendos in local and national events where students vie for scholarships and other coveted rewards.

At ACT-SO, we empower young Black students to broaden their horizons and refine their skills across a spectrum of disciplines. From the performing arts and culinary craftsmanship to the realms of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), students can showcase their prowess in up to three competition areas. Step into the Rhythm of our Program:

August

Local programs, hosted by NAACP units, herald the commencement of annual ACT-SO activities.

September-March

Local programs nurture talent through mentoring and scholastic enrichment activities.

April

Local programs set the stage for ACT-SO competitions. Gold medalists, achieving scores between 95-100 in their category, earn the opportunity to compete nationally.

April-July

Students persist in local mentorship and enrichment programs, priming themselves for the national stage.

July

The culmination arrives as winners from local competitions converge for the National Competition and Ceremonies, an integral part of the NAACP National Convention held every July.
